Coconut oil is an awesome product that has grown in popularity, and rightfully so. It supplies the good fats that we need in our diet, has a very substantial heat tolerance making it ideal for cooking, and even has antifungal properties among several other health benefits. 1 thing that I have been using coconut oil for and enjoying the benefits is an early Ayurvedic technique known as oil pulling. This technique has been used for centuries to improve oral hygiene and general health.
Therefore the technique is quite easy. The technique takes advantage of a few properties of coconut oil, the first being a biochemical reaction that occurs between the oil and the bacteria and single-cell organisms from the mouth. The fact that the majority of single-cell organisms in the mouth have a lipid (fat) layer on the exterior of the cell, the coconut oil (which can also be a lipid) binds with the lipid layer of the germs. If you spit the oil from your mouth after the pulling technique, you spit out the jump bacteria and organisms with the used oil! So as you’re swishing the oil around in your mouth, pull the oil back and forth between your teeth. If you realize that you feel the need to swallow the oil, then spit it out and put a lesser amount in. If you jaws feel tired or achy, you’re most likely swishing and working a little too hard so back off on the intensity. Repeat this process every day, or at least a few times weekly.
It’s encouraged to spit the used oil at the end of the process into the bathroom for a few reasons, and both of which make sense. Number one, you do not need oil to back up in the plumbing pipes, and number two it is not a terrific idea to have the germs pulled from your mouth at the sink that could come into contact with dishes or dab upon you and so on.
