In August 2002, CHITTA entered into landmark agreement with Albertas
Physician Office Systems Program (POSP) to provide the input from
the Vendor community for the Vendor Conformance & Usability
Requirements (VCUR) Task Force that was publicly announced on August
As a joint program of the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) and
Alberta Health and Wellness, POSPs vision is to establish
a physician office information infrastructure that is integrated
with the provincial health information system - with free-standing
sources of information such as laboratories, diagnostic imaging
facilities, pharmacies, as well as regional health authorities
and government data repositories and the like.
The VCUR Task Force was charged with defining a target state for
physician offices systems that will support the objective of an
integrated health information system.
As a consequence of the agreement:
- All vendor communication and consultation brought to
the VCUR task force were channeled through CHITTA
- Members of the CHITTA Standing Committee on Physician Office
Systems represented CHITTA on the Task Force and its working
groups; these representatives were charged with taking an industry-wide,
rather than vendor-specific, approach.
This unique, groundbreaking, landmark initiative - completed
in March 2003, was proven to be a success from the perspective
of POSP and the vendor community alike.
Building on this strong foundation of collaboration between
the vendor community, the healthcare delivery system, government
and other stakeholders CHITTA is both proud and pleased that
this relationship has been extended to include:
- Alberta EHR Conformance Testing
- Representation on the Alberta Health and Wellness ICT
Architecture Working Group
- Diagnostic Imaging Text Reporting Standards Project
- The Alberta Pharmacy Information Network
